Since 2005, the artistic research in Nantes School of Art focuses on art productions. Research groups develop several research hypothesis on the terms : Art and Territory, as part of the contemporary art practices questions.
Two principal research topics are studied by the different teams : Border Art Research on the questions of Art & Border and Plus de réalité (More Reality) on abstraction art practices and art in public space.
Fieldwork: Marfa is an international research program in Marfa Texas, USA, held by Nantes art school and HEAD–Genève. It caters to emerging artists, critics and/or researchers whose projects require immersion into the specific environment of Marfa and Texas territory, necessitating movement through geography as well as time and space for the purposes of specific research work. The program comes with a research grant, enabling the applicants to produce theoretical and/or practical work using their own methodologies, with support from a number of professional partners, specialized stakeholders and educational institutions.
